Aikey takes Corn Belt Clash win at Fayette County Speedway
By Christine Rublack
The Fayette County Fair began on a hot and humid Tuesday night, as a large crowd filled the stands for some exciting racing at the Fayette County Speedway to kick-off the 2010 annual event.
Pole sitter Jason Utter took charge in the early laps, but it didn’t take long for Cedar Falls’ Jeff Aikey to work into the second position under Kurt Kile. Adam Hensel and defending CBC Champion Keith Foss began to challenge one another for the fourth position.
Aikey charged towards Utter using the high line and shot to the lead on lap 10. Aikey kept using the high groove as Utter hugged the bottom. Aikey began to distance himself from the field as he began to reel in lapped traffic. The lapped cars helped Utter stay in striking distance of the top spot multiple times, but once Aikey was free of the cars he began to expand his lead.
Jason Rauen began to move through the field running the high side as he moved forward and challenged Utter for second as the laps began to wind down. Aikey’s lead kept growing as the green flag flew. Rauen moved into the second position as Utter battled for position with the #44 of Adam Hensel and a hard charging Denny Eckrich. Aikey held on for the $2,000 win, with Rauen, Utter, Hensel and Denny Eckrich rounding out the top-five.

Rauen Tops Field at Independence
By Christine Rublack
A solid field of cars were in attendance at the Independence Motor Speedway Wednesday night, despite the scorching temperatures.
Dave Eckrich started to advance himself from the field quickly but it was Jason Rauen who powered to the second spot within the first few laps of the race. The top two drivers quickly began to reel in the tail of the field as Rauen shot to the lead on lap ten. Jason Utter had moved into the third position with Terry Neal and Curt Martin right behind. At the halfway point Rauen had distanced himself from second place Eckrich as Utter was sitting solid in third. Martin was in fourth as Chad and Chris Simpson were side-by-side for the fifth position. One thing that Rauen didn’t want to see was a caution but with less then ten laps to go the final caution of the event took place. Rauen didn’t seem to be hurt by the restart as he pulled away from Eckrich and Utter. Utter used the restart to shoot pass Eckrich. Eckrich began slip back as Martin moved into fourth. The checkers quickly waved as Rauen took home the win. Utter, Martin with Chad and Chris Simpson following.

Headline: Simpson stars as Elko opens AMSOIL Dirt Nationals
By Jim Burns
Elko, MN July 9 & 10, 2010--Mt. Vernon, IA's Chad Simpson has been on quite the ride in 2010 and if his performance in the opening weekend of the AMSOIL Dirt Nationals at Elko Speedway is any indication, he's not slowing down anytime soon! Simpson made a bold, final lap, final turn pass of Farley, IA's Jason Rauen to win the Friday night Corn Belt Clash headliner, then came back Saturday night to slide by Columbus Junction, IA's Jason Utter on lap 29, enroute to the victory in the "USAF 30", pocketing the $3,000 winners check for his seventh victory in eight series starts.
A carnival like atmosphere greeted fans both Friday and Saturday evening as the concourse featured displays from sponsors and vendors alike and with the freshly laid clay surface in place, all in attendence were anxious for the green to fly. On Friday July 9, 2010, after three action packed heat races the Corn Belt Clash Late Models took to the clay for their feature (which was shortened to 20 laps due to time constraints) and Jason Rauen powered to the early lead over Adam Hencil and Alan Mondus, with Brian Harris ducking under Mondus for third on the second circuit and series point leader Chad Simpson climbing into the top five by the fifth lap. With Rauen continuing to set the pace, the first of three cautions flew on lap 10 as Dave Eckrich slowed with a flat, with the second caution coming on the restart as Kelly Anderson stalled on the main as the green flew sending cars scattering across the track.
As the green flew resuming the action, only two laps would be completed before two cars tangled in front of the leaders to stall the action one final time. On the final restart, as Rauen brought the field to the green, Chad Simpson flew around the outside from fifth into a battle with Hencil for runnerup honors, while Kevin Sather and Chris Simpson joined in the hunt. Over the final three laps, the crowd roared it's approval as Chad Simpson closed feverishly and pulled alongside of Rauen as the white flag flew. As the tandem exiting turn four, with the crowd on it's feet Simpson edged Rauen at the line for the win, with Hencil third, Sather fourth and Chris Simpson fifth.
For the UMSS Sprint Cars, the action was hard fought as a total of 9 cautions reigned throughout the 15 lap main including an opening lap incident between Johnny Parsons III and Jerry Richert, Jr . that sent Richert, Jr to the pits as his header pipe was pinched shut in the incident. After all of the incidents that included a spectacular flip on the front straight by Tony Kaus, St. Peter's Bill Johnson brought his Mankato Harley Davidson sprinter home with the win, with Glencoe's Chris Graf second and series point leader Brad Barickman third.
Topping off the opening nights action were the AMSOIL Championship Modifieds and after four heats and a "B" feature pared the 38 entrants down to the 24 starters, the action didn't disappoint as Waseca's Gerald Boumeester led the field to the green, with Dan Wheeler, Bud Martini working around pole sitter Bob Smith to begin their chase of the leader. By lap three, Wheeler and Martini had chased down Boumeester and set sail on their own personal "one on one" battle, that culminated with Wheeler capturing the checkers, with Martini, Dustin Scott, Smith and Nate Chodur in the top five ending a wild night of action.
After giving competitors, officials and fans all a chance to recharge, all parties returned to Elko Speedway on Saturday July 10, 2010 for night two of the AMSOIL Dirt Nationals and after a full night of racing, the track and competitors all responded.
The Corn Belt Clash Late Models kicked off the action with the USAF 30 and Marshall Fegers led the field to the green, with Jason Utter, Kevin Sather, Dave Eckrich and Justin Kay in tow before an early caution flew on lap three as Eric Pember lost the handle on his ride exiting turn four. Following a quick reline, the green flew resuming the action and it was Utter getting a great run out of turn two to overtake Fegers for the point, leading the way until the second of three cautions flew on lap 12 as Justin Fegers lost power in turn three, while Kay headed to the infield with problems of his own. On the second restart, series point leader Chad Simpson made a wild slide in turn two bypassing both Eckrich and Sather to move to third, before the caution flew a final time on lap 26 as Adam Hencil stalled in turn two, setting up a four lap dash for the $3,000 top prize. On the final green, Utter took the point, with Simpson sliding around Marshall Fegers for second before tracking down Utter on lap 29, sliding around the leader in turn one enroute to the weekend sweep, with Utter second, Fegers third, Eckrich fourth and Sather fifth.
In the UMSS Sprint Cars, what a difference a night can make! Friday night, early contact and a pinched header pipe sidelined Forest Lake's Jerry Richert, Jr, but Saturday night he was all business as he grabbed the point on the drop of the green and held off an early challenge from Alan Gilbertson before a lap four rollover by Luke Nagel brought out the red flag. On the restart, Gilbertson was able to take the lead, but Richert wouldn't go away and Chris Graf showed that he wanted a piece of the action as he moved by Johnny Parsons III on lap seven to join in the hunt.
The turning point in the 20 lapper came on lap 14 as Gilbertson, feeling pressure from Richert on the inside looked to work through lapped traffic and as Richert saw an opening and went for it entering turn one, Gilbertson touched wheels with Shannon Erickson sending both cars over. On the final restart, Richert and Graf swapped the point before Richert asserted himself to earn the win, with Graf second, Parsons III third, Brandon Allen fourth and Andy Jones fifth.
Topping off the action were the AMSOIL Championship Modifieds and in similar fashion to Richert's woes in the UMSS Sprints, Hector's "Flyin Ryan" Schleusner had his problems on Friday night, but outpaced Ryan Johnson for the early lead and through 20 laps and three caution periods fought tooth and nail with Friday's winner Dan Wheeler for the lead. When the checkers rolled, it was Schleusner edging Wheeler for the victory, with Jared Boumeester third, Alan Gessell, Jr. fourth and Alan Bohlman fifth.
The AMSOIL Dirt Nationals continue at Elko Speedway on Friday and Saturday July 16 & 17, 2010 with the USMTS Modifieds, including a special appearance by NASCAR veteran Ken Schrader on Saturday in addition to the UMSS Sprint Cars and AMSOIL Championship Modifieds. Gates open at 5p both nights, with racing action set for 7p. For ticket information, directions or general questions, contact the Racing Office at (952) 461-7223 or visit www.elkospeedway.com.

Matthees Stops The Simpson Streak at Five at Fayette County Speedway
By Christine Rublack
West Union, Iowa - Lance Matthees put a stop to Chad Simpson's hot streak as he took home the win at Fayette County Speedway. From the start of the race Matthees looked to be the one to beat as he pulled away from pole sitter Jake Meier. Adam Hensel quickly found himself in the third position as he moved into the high line of the track. Hensel took no time to move around Meier and into the second position. Lap nine was the only time the event saw the yellow fly as mid pack starter Chad Simpson now found himself behind Jeff Aikey into the fifth position. Scott Riechers who was in third now felt the pressure from Aikey and Simpson upon the restart.
Hensel now had Matthees in his sights. He began to reel him in and going into the corner he shot low and into the lead but Matthees wasn't going to give up that easy as he powered back to the top spot. The top two began to distance themselves from the field as they worked into lapped traffic just after the halfway point. Simpson had now worked his way into the fourth position with Riechers bumper in his view he moved into third with few laps remaining. The battle for the lead increased as Matthees took the top spot and began to pull away again but Hensel wasn't going to let Matthees get too far. The checkers were in the air saw Matthees first followed by Hensel, Simpson and Riechers.

Simpson continues hot streak at Farley Speedway
By Christine Rublack
Farley, Iowa – Chad Simpson accomplished his fifth win in five races at Farley Speedway during the 40 lap feature.
Jason Rauen pulled away from the field as Chris Simpson positioned himself into the second position. Chad Simpson seemed to be hugging the bottom grove as he worked from his 8th place starting position into third after the first caution of the event. Rauen began to pull away from the Simpson’s but Chad wouldn’t let that happen long as be began to run down Rauen. Chris seemed to be alone in third. It was lap 12 that Chad made his move and to the lead. Rauen came charging back but a caution prior to the lap being completed kept Chad in the lead. Upon the restart Chad had Rauen and Chris hot on his bumper. Staring out on the higher line Chad shot low and began to pull away as Rauen got shuffled back Chris and Joel Callahan rounded out the top three. Chad pulled away quickly from Chris as the field began to go single file. On lap 29 Chad had a straightaway lead on Chris as he worked towards the end of the field. One last caution with 3 laps to go gave the 8 remaining cars on the track a chance to battle for position but it was Chad Simpson who powered to another win in the series, Chris, Callahan and Andy Eckrich followed.

Simpson Goes 4-for-4 at Dart Corn Belt Clash Series Events
By Christine Rublack
Cresco, Iowa – It’s four races and four wins for Chad Simpson as he took home his fourth trophy in the Corn Belt Clash.
It was Jake Meier who started inside pole and looked to be the one to beat as cautions plagued the early portion of the race. Meier seemed to pull away from the field as Jason Rauen and Jeff Aikey were battling for second. As Chad Simpson began to put the pressure on Aikey the top four began to pull away from the rest of the field. Rauen had moved into the second position and started to reel in Meier. The top four began to become bumper to bumper just prior to the halfway point. With Aikey charging towards Rauen on the low line Rauen was working the upper groove as he spun out causing another caution that would began the challenge for a new leader. Upon the restart Meier now had Aikey and Simpson on his bumper. Simpson shot passed Meier and to the lead. Meier was now beside Aikey with Lance Matthees following. With three laps to go Simpson pulled away from the field as his brother Chris Simpson had moved through the field from his 17th place starting position into the top five. Aikey had second locked as Meier was now feeling the pressure from Chris. Chad took the checkers and his fourth consecutive win, Aikey, Meier and Chris Simpson followed.

Simpson dominates Cedar County Raceway and Goes Three-For-Three
By Christine Rublack
Tipton, Iowa – A caution free Late Model feature highlighted the night at Cedar County Raceway. From his outside pole starting position Chad Simpson powered to the lead ahead of Terry Neal and never looked back to the wave of the checkers. Neal who fell into the second position started to feel the pressure from Dave Eckrich as Simpson began to pull away. Simpson had over a half a straight away on the second place car as he began to work into lapped traffic. The top five moved into a single file run expect for Eckrich who moved under Neal to try for the second position. Denny Eckrich began to move into the top five as 13th place starter Brian Harris was moving through the field. Kevin Sather was on the bumper of Jake Meier who was running fifth. Dave Eckrich shot low again on Neal and this time was able to move into the second position but had a lot of ground and lapped cars to battle through to reach Simpson. Harris began to move pass Sather and Meier and into the fifth position. The 35 laps seemed to fly by as no cautions let the field bunch up and Simpson used that to his advantage as he hit the checkers first, Dave Eckrich, Neal, Denny Eckrich, and Brian Harris followed.

Simpson is Two-For-Two with Victory at Mississippi Thunder Speedway
By Christine Rublack
Fountain City, Wis. – Chad Simpson seems to be the one to beat as he is two for two in the Corn Belt Clash this season.
From his row two starting position Chad darted low and to the lead with the wave of the green. Adam Hensel was in pursuit of Chad with Keith Foss in third. A caution early in the race put Hensel and Foss tight on Chad’s bumper but the restarts seemed to be the ticket for Chad as he shot off like a rocket and began to pull away again. Foss began to work the low line under Hensel but Hensel gave him a fight. Foss final found his spot and shot low to second just prior to another caution. Simpson yet again shot off with Foss looking to close the gap. Jake Redetzke had moved into the top four as Chris Simpson began to power through the field. It didn’t take long for Chad to work into lapped traffic which helped Foss and Chris start to close the gap on Chad. The lapped cars seemed to be the ticket as Foss had reeled in Chad but Chris wasn’t far behind Foss. A caution with 8 laps to go placed Foss and Chris right behind Chad and it looked to be a shoot out with the low groove the place to be. Chad took off Chris and Foss were back and forth for second giving Chad the chance to expand his lead. Two more cautions kept the field bunched but it was Chad Simpson who was able to hold on to the lead from the start to finish. Foss, Chris Simpson and Jason Rauen followed.

CHAD SIMPSON DOMINATES CORN BELT CLASH SEASON OPENER
Courtesy of Bill Nelson
With 130 cars in the pit area on a cool but sunny Saturday night 36 Corn Belt Clash Latemodels were on hand for the season opening event in 2010 on Gillund Enterprises, Justice Brothers night at the speedway. The first corner saw a three car pileup for the first and only caution of the 35 lap feature event. With a complete restart Chad Simpson jumped out to the early lead with Chad Mahder close behind in second. Dave Eckrich was in third with Adam Hensel in fourth early on. With three completed Keith Foss was pressuring Hensel for fourth as Simpson had pulled out to a nice early lead. Hensel held onto the fourth spot. With six completed Eckrich was working Mahder over hard for the second spot while Kevin Sather and Jake Redetzke were side by side in sixth spot on Foss's rear bumper. Simpson was using the high groove of the speedway with Mahder working the low groove on the smooth and fast racing surface. With fifteen completed lapped traffic came into play. With the lapped cars battling for position the leaders had to tip toe through the pack. Simpson struggled to get through the first pack as Mahder caught up to his rear bumper. Then Simpson cleared the cars and left Mahder to struggle through. With eighteen down Sather worked into the top five. Twenty laps down and Mahder still battled through the traffic allowing Eckrich and Hensel to catch up to his bumper. Finally Mahder made it through the pack with Eckrich and Hensel now going door to door on the speedway. Five laps later Hensel got in the right groove and worked past Eckrich who was being held up by traffic and took over the third spot. With three laps to go Eckrich again tried to regain the third spot as he and Hensel ran side by side to the white flag. At the line it was Simpson with the dominating win, Mahder, Hensel, Eckrich and Sather rounded out the top five. Heat race winners were Keith Foss, Justin Sass, Adam Hensel and Chad Simpson with "B" main's going to Kyle Jumbeck and Cory Mahder.
